One of the nice things about daily prompts is that the topics can be so random that you are forced to think about things you normally would not think about.
While I have not written here in over half of 2026, I have been writing over at Substack, which I will be linking on the sidebar after I am done with writing here.
The truth is that I have run out of ideas to say in this blog, which remains to be some sort of brain dump for me. I no longer want to update about my daily comings and goings as I used to. Those thoughts deserve to be written offline. However, the urge to write remains, so who knows if I will end up posting more if I answer daily writing prompts.
Now for the prompt above: If your future self could send you one sentence, what do you hope it would say?
My first question back would be… how am I receiving this message? This sentence? Is it via email? A post? How far into the future does she have to be? Is it a year, or 50 years? What is her state of mind? Are we doing a Back to the Future kinda approach?
I imagine future me would not last 50 years in the future though. So lets say this is me, 20 years from now. Why 20? Because 20 years seems like enough time for me to have developed considerably from where I am now, and that would mean my life would have changed drastically enough to warrant my sending a sentence to my current self.
I imagine she would send me something like,
“It will all pass; you’ve got this.”
Why that short sentence?
This plays on the phrase we frequently see in motivational posts that goes “this, too, shall pass.” And I imagine my older self would want to assure this anxious cucumber that actually, all of this will pass. So whatever anxieties, worries, and other things I typically beat myself over with will pass and I will survive.
Myself, knowing myself, would pretty much probably offer the only comfort that I could possibly need right now, and that is the confidence that I will turn out alright.
The truth is that I struggle most days with wanting to attain certainty, though I know certainty is something we often cannot have unless it is mathematically airtight. But things like life, worries, and living conditions rely on things such as external factors, human behavior, unforeseen requirements or dependencies, and of course, force majeure.
As a worrywart, I worry.
So future self would most likely issue those words to just motivate me, snap me back to reality.
Mom’s spaghetti.
What would your future self tell you?
